SINCLAIRVILLE — Behind 10 kills, two blocks, 10 digs and four aces by Emiley Anderson, No. 4 Cassadaga Valley upended No. 5 Sherman in a Section VI Class D quarterfinal volleyball match Wednesday night.

The Cougars (9-10), who also received six kills, 11 digs and eight aces from Hailey Anderson and nine assists, five digs and two aces from Alexis Pattyson, advance to the semifinals against top-seeded Clymer on Monday.

Leading the way for the Wildcats (10-10) were Madison Emory with one kill, three digs and four aces; Kelsey Wagner with three kills, one block, two digs and two aces; and Kenadi Long with five assists and one ace.

ELLICOTTVILLE UPSETS PANTHERS

PANAMA — Natalee Leiper had 13 kills and Ande Northrup had 24 assists as No. 6 Ellicottville defeated No. 3 Panama 25-13, 25-22, 26-24 in a Class D quarterfinal.

Riley Whitmer 12 kills and 14 digs, while Hayden Andera chipped in eight kills and two blocks for the Eagles (13-9), who will travel to No. 2 Westfield for a semifinal Monday.

Kaitlyn Horton had 13 kills, six blocks and 11 digs; Kiera Loberg had 20 assists and six digs; and Emma Cooper had seven kills and 11 digs for the Panthers (12-7).

JOHNSON POWERS CLYMER

CLYMER — Lily Johnson had 10 kills, two blocks, two digs and three aces as No. 1 Clymer swept No. 8 Forestville 25-14, 25-21, 25-21 in a Class D quarterfinal.

Janelle Burchanowski had a kill, 14 assists, 10 digs and three aces; Harleigh Faulkner had two kills, three digs and six aces; and Ava Nyweide had five kills and an ace for the Pirates (14-5), who will host a semifinal against No. 4 Cassadaga Valley on Monday.

Carilene Sliwa had four kills and two digs; Kaitie LoManto had two kills, seven assists, a dig and four aces; Iris Muck had two kills, two assists, two blocks and a dig; and Megan Gruber had a kill and four digs for the Hornets (6-14).

WOLVERINES PREVAIL

WESTFIELD — Brocton came out firing on all cylinders, but Westfield overcame the Bulldogs 14-25, 30-28, 25-15, 25-18 in the Class D quarterfinals.

The 2-seeded Wolverines were led by Nahlia Douglas with eight kills and a block, Sydney Hotchkiss added 10 digs, Maddie Burgess dealt 18 assists and five aces and Avery Smith scored seven kills.

No. 10 Brocton received 17 kills, two blocks, eight digs and five aces from Zoe Spiller, Evie Morrison dealt 36 assists, four kills, 11 digs and an ace, Grace Lundin made 24 digs and three aces, Ariana Nickerson delivered seven blocks, five digs and four aces and Lily Zappie added eight kills and four digs.

“It was a much improved Brocton team,” Westfield head coach Greg Birner stated. “I give props to my players for sticking through a rough couple of games and finishing strong.”

Westfield (11-7) will entertain No. 6 Ellicottville (13-9) in a semifinal on Monday, while Brocton finishes its season with an 8-12 record.

CLASS C

EAGLES SWEEP EDEN

EDEN — Joanne Meadows is a proud alum of Eden which has been a fixture in the Section VI and state volleyball playoffs since the early 1980s.

On Wednesday in the Class C quarterfinals, Meadows got to show the great program she has built at Chautauqua Lake.

Despite slow starts to the first two sets, Meadows’ Eagles were able to take control of the competition and sweep the second-seeded Raiders 25-17, 25-22, 25-17 for a spot in the semifinals.

“Eden is a fantastic program,” Meadows said. “This is where I went to school. I think the kids started a little shaky, but they played really well.”

The seventh-seeded Eagles were once again led by the youth of the program with eighth-grader Kinslee Motter scoring 12 kills, two digs, a block and an assist; freshman Noli Paddock hammering seven kills and five aces; sophomore Karagan Fairbank dealing out 18 assists with three kills; and seventh-grader Brina Jacobson adding four kills, 10 assists and four digs.

“Kinslee stood out, she really did a great job offensively,” Meadows said. “I think some of the young kids are reaching a spot where they’re reaching their peak for the year and that’s nice to see right now.”

Chautauqua Lake (14-3) will travel to No. 6 Falconer (17-3) for a Friday semifinal.

FALCONER EARNS HOME MATCH

MIDDLEPORT — Emily Zaranek had 14 kills, four aces and 14 digs as No. 6 Falconer swept No. 3 Royalton-Hartland 25-20, 25-19, 25-14 in a Class C quarterfinal.

Hannah Melquist handed out 21 assists to go along with four kills, 11 digs and two aces; Mylie Zaranek had nine kills, 19 digs and two aces; Nylah Sharpe had 12 digs and five assists; and Nazariah Neal had five digs and three aces for the Golden Falcons (17-3), who will host No. 7 Chautauqua Lake in a Friday semifinal.

PORTVILLE STAYS HOT

PORTVILLE — No. 1 Portville swept No. 9 Randolph 25-16, 25-19, 25-14 in a Class C quarterfinal.

Ali Haynes led Portville with 18 kills, a block and an ace, Mia Rhinehart made 13 digs and three aces and Adelyn Walker set up 30 assists, had eight digs and four aces.

Randolph finishes the year with a 14-5 record.

The Panthers (17-0) will host No. 12 Cattaraugus-Little Valley (16-4) in a Friday semifinal.

T’WOLVES OUTLAST SILVER CREEK

CATTARAUGUS — No. 12 Cattaraugus-Little Valley swept No. 13 Silver Creek 25-19, 31-29, 25-13 in a Class C quarterfinal.

The Timberwolves (16-4) will travel to No. 1 Portville (17-0) for a Friday semifinal.

CLASS B2

FREDONIA SWEEPS

ON ROAD

ALDEN — Londyn Wilmot had 11 kills and Elizabeth Morris added nine as No. 5 Fredonia swept No. 4 Alden 25-16, 25-19, 25-19 in a Class B2 quarterfinal.

Wilmot added six aces, eight digs and three blocks; Morris had an ace and eight digs; Kaylen Rollins had five kills, six aces, five digs and a block; Maddie Saunders had 20 assists and nine digs; Lydia LaBarr had three kills, three aces and eight digs; and Katherine Fortna had five kills for the Hillbillies.

Fredonia (10-6) will host No. 9 Akron (7-6) in a semifinal Friday.

TROJANS TOP

HEALTH SCIENCES

BUFFALO — No. 7 Southwestern swept No. 2 Health Sciences 25-7, 25-10, 25-15 in a Class B2 quarterfinal at the Delavan Grider Community Center.

Madi Burnett delivered nine aces for the Trojans, Kate Miller added five more, Reagan Stutzman scored five kills and Bella Sirianni made 12 assists.

The Trojans (10-8) will travel to No. 6 Newfane (11-7) for a Friday semifinal.
