The Johnstown Tomahawks and a group of Pittsburgh Penguins alumni and celebrities will participate in the North American Hockey League franchise’s military appreciation weekend.
National anthem performer Jeff Jimerson and former Stanley Cup champion forward Mark Recchi are the latest Penguins celebrities to join a group that includes former player and current broadcaster Colby Armstrong, former goaltenders Ken Wreggett, Jean-Sebastien Aubin, former physical defenseman Francois Leroux and former Penguins player and scout Greg Malone.
The Tomahawks will play the Northeast Generals Friday (7:30) and Saturday (7) at 1st Summit Arena @ Cambria County War Memorial. Jimerson will sing the Star-Spangled Banner Friday night.
“Jeff Jimerson has performed the anthem for us before and we couldn’t be happier to have him back,” said Derek Partsch, Tomahawks director of business operations.
“Adding Mark Recchi to an already impressive list for Saturday was a no-brainer.”
The Penguins celebrities will participate in a special event Saturday.
The Tomahawks partnered with the Johnstown Generals veterans team to organize a pregame charity event for the Generals at 4 p.m. Saturday.
The Penguin celebrities will participate in a free meet-and-greet with the fans during the first period of Saturday’s Tomahawks game.

The Tomahawks begin the weekend in seventh place in the East Division, one point out of fifth place and three points from fourth place.
