St. Clair County news briefs: CityFlatsHotel announces CitySide Café reopening, new partnership; more – The Voice
CityFlatsHotel recently announced the reopening of CitySide Café, a coffee shop and eatery within the hotel in downtown Port Huron, as well as a partnership with local business Chef Mike’s Catering to provide premier catering services to the Ballroom.
“With our location just steps away from the Black River’s waterfront, our café is the perfect spot for both guests and locals to unwind and recharge,” CityFlatsHotel General Manager Melissa Shafran said in a recent press release.
Formerly known as The Kitchen, CitySide Café has undergone a transformation since its closure in July with the intention of refining its menu to enhance the overall dining experience for its visitors, the release states. The reimagined café now features a tailored menu and a selection of specialty coffee drinks.
“Our goal is to provide locals and visitors alike with a welcoming place to enjoy great coffee and delicious food,” Shafran said. “We’ve kept some favorites from The Kitchen, but we’re also excited to incorporate new offerings.”
For breakfast, the menu features a variety of new items such as the Florentine Muffin or the Pearled Sugar Waffles. Visitors can also explore lunch options, which include a selection of sandwiches, soups and flatbreads.
CitySide Café is located on the first floor of CityFlatsHotel at 800 Military St. in Port Huron and is open daily from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
In a separate release, Shafran said that the new partnership with Chef Mike’s Catering brings a “truly special touch” to event services at CityFlatsHotel
“Their dedication to quality, homemade food aligns perfectly with our mission to create memorable experiences for our guests,” Shafran said.
Led by father-daughter team Mike Moretz and Melissa “Missy” Damon, Chef Mike’s Catering is a long-standing family business with deep roots in the Blue Water Area. Established in the early 1980s as a cinnamon bun shop, Chef Mike’s Catering expanded to include a deli, and in 1994, opened the former Crystal Gardens banquet center in Marysville.
“It doesn’t feel like a job when you’re working with family every day,” Damon said in the release. “It’s all family-owned and operated, with homemade food — Grandma’s recipes. And that’s what makes it, I think, more unique.”
Moretz emphasized the care and attention to detail that goes into every dish.
“We take so much pride in our food,” he said. “There’s a special love and dedication to everything we make and we’re excited to bring that to CityFlatsHotel.”
With the partnership, guests attending events in the Ballroom will experience the “exceptional quality and personalized touch that has made Chef Mike’s Catering a local favorite,” the release states.
“CityFlatsHotel is just a beautiful venue, it’s part of the history of Port Huron, and we’re looking forward to being a part of it,” Damon said. “It feels like home already.”
