During my 23 years at The Bulletin, I have covered the vibrantCentral Oregon outdoors scene, college football, Olympic track andfield, and high school sports.

Six Central Oregon high school football teams are set for first-round state playoff games on Friday night.

In Class 5A, No. 2 Mountain View (9-0) will begin its bid to return to the state championship game when it hosts No. 15 Thurston (7-2) at 7 p.m.

The undefeated Intermountain Conference-champion Cougars have won 21 of their last 22 games — their only setback in that time span a 29-23 loss to Wilsonville in the 5A state championship game last season.

Also in 5A first-round playoff games, No. 8 Summit (5-4) hosts No. 9 Willamette (8-1), and No. 12 Bend (6-3) plays at No. 5 Wilsonville (7-2), the defending state champions. Both those games start at 7 p.m.

In Class 4A first-round playoff action, No. 4 Crook County (9-0) hosts No. 13 Tillamook (5-4) at 6 p.m. as the Cowboys, champions of Special District 5, head into the postseason after going unbeaten in the regular season.

In Class 3A, No. 12 Sisters (7-2) travels to play at No. 5 Taft (7-2) at 7 p.m.

In Class 2A, No. 4 Culver (9-0) looks to stay unbeaten as it hosts No. 13 Weston-McEwen (5-4) at 7 p.m.
