DNR offers deer license bundle

The Indiana Department of Natural Resources is offering a deer license bundle for the upcoming deer hunting season. The deer license bundle includes privileges to harvest a total of two antlerless deer plus one antlered deer. It can be used in the special youth, archery, firearms, muzzleloader, and special antlerless deer seasons.

Firearm dear hunting season begins Nov. 16 and continues through Dec. 1, except in DNR-designated deer reduction zones, where the season opened Sept. 15 and continues until Jan. 15. Archery season opened Oct. 1 and continues through Jan. 5, and muzzleloader season is Dec. 7-22.

For younger hunters, 2024’s final free youth hunting days are Nov. 30 and Dec. 1. For more information, visit in.gov/dnr/fish-and-wildlife/wildlife-resources/animals/white-tailed-deer/.

Snake meet-and-greet at park

Brown County State Park will host a snake meet-and-greet event at the park’s Nature Center at 4 p.m. Friday. Nov. 15

Visitors will get an up-close encounter with one of Indiana’s native snakes from a park guide and learn about the animals’ unique traits, threats they face and how snakes affect our lives.

Full moon hike at Strahl Lake, 7 to 8 p.m. Friday. Nov. 15

Backyard bird feeding, 11 a.m. Saturday Nov. 16 at the Nature Center.

“Extinct and Endangered,” a presentation on animals that used to call Indiana home and those struggling to survive, 11 a.m. Sunday Nov. 17 at the Nature Center.

Civilian Conservation Corps hike, featuring several unique structures built by the CCC, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Nov 22 beginning at Abe Martin Lodge.

Bobcat trapping comments being accepted

The Indiana Natural Resources Commission (NRC) has opened public comment for proposed changes to allow the limited, regulated trapping of bobcats.

In March, the Indiana General Assembly passed Senate Enrolled Act 241 that directs the Indiana Department of Natural Resources (DNR) to have rules in place by July 2025 for bobcat harvest. Public comments can be submitted at IN.gov/nrc/rules/rulemaking-docket using the “Submit Comments Here” link under the Bobcat Amendments Proposed Rule. Comments also can be mailed to the Natural Resources Commission.

The deadline for submitting public comments is Thursday, Nov. 14. A when a public hearing will also be held between 5-7 p.m. Eastern Time at the Southeast-Purdue Agricultural Center located at 4425 E. 350N, Butlerville, Indiana. Interested members of the public can attend in person or online.

The public hearing also will be webcast on the NRC’s rulemaking docket website, IN.gov/nrc/rules/rulemaking-docket, during the time of the public hearing, and comments will be able to be made through the online webcast.
