Omaha volleyball team celebrates after winning the first set 25-16.
Despite its conference rival putting up a fight late, the firepower of Omaha volleyball was too much to handle Tuesday night.
The Mavericks came out swinging, dominating the first two sets before fending off a resilient comeback by Kansas City to win in four.
The Mavericks dominated the Roos in the first set, cruising to a 25-13 victory. They were highly efficient on offense, hitting an impressive .478 for the set. Omaha's attack was relentless, racking up 14 kills, with Kali Jurgensmeier and Shayla McCormick leading the charge, each tallying 4 kills in the first frame alone. The Mavericks controlled the tempo from the start, keeping Kansas City on its heels and unable to mount a response. Omaha's strong offensive showing in the opening frame set the tone for the match, giving it an early edge over the Roos.
UNO overwhelmed UMKC in the second set, cruising to a dominant 25-7 victory. Kansas City struggled offensively, committing eight attack errors and hitting a dismal -.107. Omaha took full advantage, applying relentless pressure throughout the set. Shayla McCormick continued to shine, adding five more kills to her tally and spearheading Omaha’s attack.

With eight games remaining in the season, the Mavericks' victory keeps them firmly in second place in the Summit League standings. As they push toward the postseason, Omaha’s strong offensive performance and ability to capitalize on opponents' mistakes will be key in their pursuit of the top spot. They'll be right back in action Thursday night when they visit North Dakota.
