Duncan Wrestling set for sixth golf tournament fundraiser

Apr 29, 2023

The Duncan Wrestling team holds up the number six after they punched their ticket to their sixth straight district championship and sixth straight trip to Dual State.

One of the more successful fundraisers for the wrestling program at Duncan Public Schools is the annual golf tournament. This year will mark the sixth annual version of raising money.

The event will take place starting at 8 a.m. on June 16 at Duncan Golf & Tennis Club for the first set of teams who will tee off. The second set of teams will start that afternoon, beginning at 1 p.m. on June 16.

Organizer Darrel Martin stated there are still slots open to golf because the field is set for 52 teams. He said there are about 10 spots remaining to get to the max amount for the tournament.

It is a four man team with the cost at $500 per team. All funds go to the program and the ongoing renovations at the Hoover Family Wrestling Center.

In years past, the organizers have honored different teams or individuals and according to Martin, they are going to take a break from that for 2023 to let organizers just focus on fellowship during the lunch.

The lunch will take place in between the shotgun starts of 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. around noon on June 16 when they will start serving burgers and drinks for everyone in attendance.

Martin said the event is going strong and believes this is a great tool to use to raise funds for the Duncan Wrestling program as a whole.

During the tournament, the organizers will also host different contests, including closest to the pin and long drives. They will give away cash prizes to the winners of the morning and afternoon sessions.

"We would love fellow Duncan wrestlers and people of the community if they want to come out, it is a lot of people from all around the country who come back for this," Martin said. "It is a nice way to spend an early summer day and hopefully it won't be too hot."

To register a team, contact Martin at 580-475-4808 or contact Corey Ensey at 580-786-8858 to have the team put in one of the two tournament spots for the day.
