The Industrial Park 5K and 10K is planned for 9 a.m. to noon Nov. 16 hosted by Hytrol Conveyor Co. and Dan’s Health Club. Great Dane was recently named a “Top Company for Women to Work in Transportation” for the second consecutive year. The recognition was awarded by Redefining the Road magazine, Women in Trucking’s official publication. This is also Great Dane’s second year to secure a spot on “The Elite 30” list, which recognizes companies with the most votes. To be recognized, companies undergo a rigorous nomination and review procedure, followed by votes cast by more than 31,000 professionals in transportation including executive management, operations and talent management executives, professional drivers, and manufacturing plant teams. Great Dane operates a manufacturing plant in Jonesboro.

A paper co-authored by Hilary Schloemer, associate professor of management at Arkansas State University in Jonesboro, with colleagues from two other institutions was presented at the annual Strategic Management Society conference in Istanbul. Their paper was nominated to receive the conference Research Methods Paper Prize. The authors used two field studies to develop a model of how teams can develop novel strategies for addressing complex organizational changes.

Dana Bradford, corporate and community education coordinator and instructor at Black River Technical College and Darenda Kersey, director of career, technical, and concurrent education, recently graduated from the Arkansas Community Colleges Leadership Institute. The institute provides training sessions that help participants to better themselves and the institutions they work for. Bradford and Kersey were two out of 24 participants in this year’s program.

RightFiber, a brand of Ritter Communications, headquartered in Jonesboro is bringing its 100 percent fiber-optic network to businesses and residents in Paducah, Ky. RightFiber’s advanced network expansion, a $13 million investment, is underway and expected to be complete by summer 2025.

Dr. Carlitta M. Moore, associate professor of athletic training and vice chancellor for access and institutional engagement at Arkansas State University, made a presentation with a colleague from Texas at the Southwest Athletic Trainers Association annual meeting. They discussed how to understand the athletic training profession through the context of an intergenerational workforce. Also, they described the consequences of intergenerational diversity in the workplace and strategies to enhance collaboration in a diverse setting.

The Nabholz Charitable Foundation recently donated $1 million towards Arkansas Children’s Hospital’s expansion project. Nabholz has been a long-standing partner of Arkansas Children’s since the 1970s when founder Bob Nabholz joined the Arkansas Children’s Board of Directors. In addition, four of Nabholz’s executive team members have served as board members. Jake Nabholz, CEO of Nabholz Corporation, serves as chairman of the Arkansas Children’s Foundation Board of Directors. Nabholz has locations in Missouri, Tennessee, Connecticut, Kansas, Mississippi, Oklahoma and Arkansas, including Jonesboro.

Black River Technical College and Randolph County have partnered to house the Randolph County Office of Emergency Management on the BRTC Pocahontas campus. Dr. Jonathan Merten, professor of chemistry at Arkansas State University in Jonesboro, gave a research talk at LIBS (Laser Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy) XIII international meeting in Argentina, based on a collaboration with Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. Merten, Steven Hoke, instructor in physics, and undergraduate researcher Mary Elizabeth Foster performed the work, which should allow nuclear site inspectors from the International Atomic Energy Agency to verify nuclear weapons treaty compliance almost instantly.
