HARRIS — In a gym typically filled with blue and gold, pink was on full display Monday night.

Bark River-Harris volleyball had its cancer awareness night, raising $1,238 for the Delta County Cancer Alliance.

“We want to thank the community for coming out tonight to support the cause,” Broncos coach Brooke Anderson said. “I know a lot of people are directly affected or know someone who is and it’s great to see everyone come out.”

Bark River-Harris defeated North Central 25-17, 27-25, 25-14.

The Broncos trailed 2-0 to start the third set, but the Broncos responded with a three-point scoring run to take the lead at 3-2.

The Jets tied it up at three as Haylee Gatien had a well placed return that the Broncos were not able to catch up to.

The Broncos fired back with a six-point scoring run as the front line for the Broncos exerted its power against the Jets taking a 9-3 lead.

“Our girls fought hard and battled tonight, Anderson said. “Credit to North Central. They came in and were very scrappy and didn’t make it easy for us.”

The Jets scored three straight to get within three, but the Broncos proved to be too much as they extended the lead out to 18-7 scoring 10 of the next 11 points. The Broncos also scored the last six points of the third set.

The Second set was the best set of the night as the teams went back and forth as each team made their runs. The Jets opened the second stanza with a 5-1 lead. However a seven-point scoring run by the Broncos put them up 8-5.

The Jets came back to tie at eight, as there were nine ties and five lead changes.

“The second set we showed flashes of how we know we can play,” Jets coach Rick Mick said. “The first and third sets we didn’t have a lot of energy, and that made it hard for us.”

The Broncos return to action Tuesday as they travel to North Dickinson. The Jets will be back in action Thursday as they host Ishpeming.
