St. Francis Catholic School is gearing up for its 57th annual Harvest Ball. This event is the school’s largest fundraiser. This year’s event is slated for Nov. 2 at the Midnight Garden in Marshalltown. The evening begins at 5 p.m., with a social hour and hor d’oeuvres, followed by dinner prepared by Eric Boone. Dueling Pianos will entertain attendees after the live auction.

The theme is Night Under the Stars, setting the tone for a formal evening under glowing lights. When the event originated over 50 years ago, it was always a formal affair. Over the years, it has become more casual. This year, the committee looks forward to revisiting the formal traditions, and guests are encouraged to dress for the theme.

“Money raised for the event is critical to the financial health of St. Francis Catholic School. The focus is to continue to provide small classroom sizes and faith-based education in the community we love for years to come,” said Brooke Davis, a committee person.

Auction items and donations from local business owners and community members drive the event to its success. Family and friends who wish to participate in the event or support the school can do so even if they are not local.

“Our online auction platform, www.one.bidpal.net/harvestball24, allows people to bid on silent auction items, donate auction items, purchase event tickets, or simply make a monetary donation directly from their smartphone or computer,” said Davis.

The students and teachers of St. Francis play a big part in auction items. The staff come up with unique “teacher experiences” and the students create classroom projects and books.

“The sentimental value of the student projects always makes for hot auction items,” said Davis.

Auction items range from wine experiences and vacations to professional sports memorabilia. Auction items will be accepted until Oct. 25. Cash and check donations can also be mailed to St. Francis Catholic School, attention Harvest Ball, 310 Columbus Dr., Marshalltown, IA, 50158.
