ONALASKA, Wis. (WXOW) - The Division 1 volleyball Sectional Final did not disappoint as Holmen took down Verona in five sets.
The Wildcats took set one, and then seemingly secured set point in the 2nd. However, the officials ruled in Holmen's favor after a Vikings return hit the post. Holmen won that set 27-25 before winning the 3rd.
After Verona forced set five, Holmen dominated leading by as much as six before taking it 15-9.
The win marks the Vikings' second trip to state and first since 2021.
"That means we're leaving our legacy for everyone watching and everyone as a team," junior Charley Casey said. "We work together no matter what challenges we face. It is all our motivation and all of our teamwork. It's not just our skill, it's how we support each other and get through each point."
"We focused on the fundamentals and what we could do to stick together and make sure that we could put up a nice block and have good passes," junior Hadley Teff said. "We knew coming in, but we just out teammed the other team and really focused on that."
The Division 1 quarterfinals from the Resch Center in Green Bay will be held on Thursday.
